Managing other creatives
When managing other creatives, keep criticisms objective oriented. What you like or dislike is of little value to those you manage or your business partners. Explain to your staff why something does or does not meet business objectives. What can be done to better meet those objectives? It is of key importance to be able to verbalize your thoughts. If you don't understand what you are trying to communicate, how are others supposed to get it? "This text looks horsey" is of little value. "The relationship of the x height to the leading and line length is off" better describes what you are thinking. This sort of communication helps your staff to learn, teaches them how to communicate their own thoughts and decreases the chances of you having to repeat yourself.

A great book on working with other creatives is Break Through Creativity by Lynne C. Levesque. This book helps classify people into different personality categories and explains how people interact with one another. Refer to the Recommended Readings for more books.
