The creative process
A designer may show you 1 or 10 solutions. Remember, if you hired a true professional, they are only showing what they feel is a true, workable, objective oriented solution. They have likely already gone through hundreds of ideas, first in brainstorms, narrowed down, sketches, narrowed down, refinements, narrowed down, etc. That is when they realize they want to explore a new direction and the process starts over. You may see one solution, but your designer has seen hundreds and has done the work for you to select the best one. Your designer is a professional and their advise should be trusted.
You chose your designer based off of their experience and portfolio and you should have a rough idea of what to expect. Saying, "I will know what I want when I see it" is an unreasonable way to approach a design problem. Establish the objective in the design brief and aim for that objective.
